THE RESIDENTIAL LIFT COMPANY

The Residential Lift Company is an Australian owned company that designed, manufactures and develops the RESiLIFT® range. It was founded by Peter and Rosemary van Emmerik in Tasmania.

Peter, the inventor of the RESiLIFT® was the first to invent a 'Though-Floor' residential lift, pioneering affordable and retro-fitted lifts for people's homes.

Since the invention of the RESiLIFT®, over 1,500 lifts have been installed in Australian homes. Over the years the lift design has progressed to what is now a stylish and streamlined model, one that we believe is the best on the market.

CELEBRATING OVER 1000 LIFTS!

In May 2019, we celebrated our customers, suppliers and growth with the installation of our 1000th lift. Here are some of your stories on how our lifts have impacted Australian lives.

THE INVENTOR

Peter Van Emmerik was a Hydro Engineer in the construction of dams for almost 40 years which led him to jobs around Australia and abroad. His innovative style, coupled with his knowledge of stresses was widely recognized and sought after.

When Peter retired in 1999, he designed the first RESiLIFT® to allow people to stay in their homes. By June 2004 the first proto-type was operating in his home in Lenah Valley, Tasmania.

The RESiLIFT design is registered under work health and safety regulations. It was granted a patent for its unique design which has minimal impact on the home. The lift received a high commendation from the Institute of Engineers in 2009.

Inventor & CEO : Peter and Rosemary van Emmerik

Since then Peter and his wife Rosemary set up their first commercial business together – The Residential Lift Company, Peter as Production Manager, Rosemary as Sales Manager. Together they have sold and installed almost 1,000 lifts throughout Australia and now have family members actively involved in the business.

Today Peter's trailblazing style continues as he is actively involved in product development of his innovation the RESiLIFT®.

Peter and Rosemary look forward to the future and passing on the family business to the next generation whilst still developing ideas and new models to meet the growing market.

Initially associated with the aging population, residential elevators are fast becoming a lifestyle inclusion for all multi level homes. As souring land prices force developers upwards, elevators prove a safer alternative to stairs. Residential lifts are now replacing the dumb waiters being installed to take groceries from the garage to the pantry and laundry chutes previously included in luxury homes. Many people use their elevators for commuting items that are difficult on stairs such as luggage and furniture. Some use them for their sick/older pets, although this is rarely the primary reason for installation. Many people do not want to purchase double storey homes but with land prices cannot afford to have single storey, so installing an elevator resolves that problem. Who benefits from installing a home elevator? Nowadays architects will typically suggest at least a provision for a future lift in new build designs.
